Day 1
Fly into Osaka Kansai or Itami Airport

Upon arrival at Kansai or Itami Airport, meet your English speaking staff at the arrival lobby and transfer to the limited express train or airport bus to Osaka Station. On arrival at Osaka Station, please check into Hotel Granvia Osaka on your own. You will have the rest of the day free at leisure.

DAY 2
Osaka – Kyoto – Osaka (Breakfast, Dinner)

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel. You will meet your fellow travellers and the English speaking guide, and start the tour of Osaka and Kyoto. The tour will visit Umeda cityscape observatory with a height of 173m. After enjoying the view of Osaka city, the tour will proceed to Dotombori, Osaka’s gourmet and entertainment district. The tour will continue to Kyoto to highlight the historical capital of Japan, visiting Kinkakuji Temple (famous for the golden pavilion) and Ryoanji Temple. The tour guide will escort your back to Osaka, where the group will gather for an initial welcome dinner.

Day 3
Osaka – Takamatsu (Breakfast, Lunch)

*Your Luggage will be transported separately from Osaka to Takamatsu this morning.

This morning you will be travelling by Shinkansen (bullet train) and a local train to Takamatsu, one of the gate cites to the Shikoku region. On the way there, the train passes over the Seto-Ohashi Bridge, which connects the main land of Honshu with the island of Shikoku. In Takamatsu, enjoy making your own handmade udon noodles for lunch. You will then head off for a walking tour inside Ritsurin Park, highly noted for its beautiful landscape. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 4
Takamatsu – Shodoshima Island – Takamatsu (Breakfast)

Take a ferry from Takamatsu Port to Shodoshima Island, which is famous for olives and soy sauce. After strolling around the Olive Garden with 100 years of history, continue to view the island from atop Kankakei Valley. Afterwards make your way to a local soy sauce factory museum to learn how soy sauce is made, a staple of Japanese cuisine.

Day 5
Takamatsu – Matsuyama (Breakfast)

*Your Luggage will be transported separately from Takamatsu to Hiroshima this morning. Please prepare overnight bags for the stay on Day 6.*

In the morning take a local express train to Matsuyama, another city on Shikoku Island. Dogo Onsen is a major highlight here, famous for having one of the oldest hot springs in Japan. The hotel is located right in the centre of Matsuyama city, so you can enjoy exploring the local area for dinner this evening.

Day 6
Matsuyama – Hiroshima (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Say Sayonara to Shikoku Island as you head south to Hiroshima, located back on the main island of Honshu. Whilst bullet trains are efficient means of transport, today you will be taking a superjet ferry to Hiroshima Port, and then heading into town to visit the Peace Memorial Park and Museum. You will enjoy Hiroshima “Okonomiyaki” for lunch before transferring to the hotel at Hiroshima Station, with the rest of the day free at leisure. Dinner at the hotel is included this evening.

Day 7
Hiroshima – Kurashiki – Okayama (Breakfast)

Start the day off by visiting a makeup-brush factory on the way to Kurashiki. In Kurashiki, we’ll be strolling through the Bikan Historical Quarters, a heavily Dutch-influenced part of town and the highlight of Kurashiki. You can enjoy the preserved classical warehouses constructed with white and black walls along the river in the centre of town; along with a visit to the Ohara Museum of Art. You will then be making your way to Okayama Castle before checking into your hotel near Okayama Station.

Day 8
Okayama – Naoshima – Okayama (Breakfast)

The world-famous art Island of Naoshima is your destination today, with various works of art dotted around the island and iconic museums to explore. There will be free time for lunch at Benesse House, then visit Chichu Art Museum and various “Ie” (Japanese traditional house) project exhibitions. Return to Okayama for the night.

Day 9
Okayama – Himeji – Kyoto (Breakfast)

*Your Luggage will be transported separately from Okayama to Kyoto this morning.

Take a shinkansen to Himeji Station and visit the majestic Himeji Castle. Registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this stunning white castle was constructed in 1346 and remains the original building to this day, giving it the status of National Treasure. After some free time for lunch, continue onward to Kyoto with the rest of the day free at leisure.

Day 10
Kyoto (Breakfast, Dinner)

Enjoy a full day free at leisure in Kyoto today; there are a number of group tours that you may wish to join for the day, or just head out and explore one of the 17 UNESCO World Heritage sites this remarkable city has to offer. In the evening there will be a farewell dinner for you to say goodbye to your new friends.

Day 11
Kyoto – Kansai or Itami Airport (Breakfast)

If you are headed to Itami or Kansai Airport today, a shuttle taxi has been organised to take you there to meet your flight. Your room in Kyoto will be available until the regular check-out time.
